The smoke detector is a device installed in a building or a house and has the role of alerting in the event of detecting an opaque gaseous mass. The attitudes to adopt in the event of triggering of the detector are diverse and vary according to the reasons underlying the signal. Here are some attitudes adapted to these different situations.

The different reasons that can cause a smoke detector to beep

The operating system of a smoke detector allows it to detect any mist that originates in the room in which it is installed. It has an LED that emits lights in the room. These beams of light, which resonate with the smoke particles, produce an electric current that will trigger the beeps of your smoke detector

However, several other factors can cause your smoke detector to go off. These situations can be mistaken for smoke spreading to the point that your sensor is fooled. Among these factors, there is for example the dust which accumulates around or within the device. In another case, it may be your detector that is faulty or the battery that is discharged. Each of these listed situations is able to stimulate the triggering of your alarm .

The attitudes to adopt for each situation that triggers your detector

Now that you know the different reasons that can cause a smoke detector to beep, you need to know what to do in each situation.

In case of fire

The first thing to do when your detector starts beeping is to find the source of the smoke. The main idea that must cross your mind in this situation is that of a fire that has started. By going to discover the fire that is at the base of the smoke, you give yourself a chance to be able to prevent the spread of it. Generally, a fire that breaks out in a house or building originates in the kitchen or an electrical installation. Therefore, these are the sources to be considered at first sight. If you realize that the fire is no longer within your reach, it is prudent for you to evacuate and call for help .

If the smoke detector fails

Your smoke detector beeps. You are on high alert and later realize that it is a false alarm. Have the reflex to go directly to consult the cell’s state or the battery that operates the device. A smoke detector tends to emit regular beeps when it runs out of energy. Hurry to change the battery or recharge the battery to allow your device to resume service. It would also be more prudent to carry out a regular check to be sure of not having any surprises.

In the case of signals caused by dust

If, after checking, it turns out that the beeps of your smoke detector are not caused by the various factors mentioned above, consider cleaning the device. The probability becomes strong in this case that the sensor is in the grip of dust. So clean the case to correct the problem.

If the beeps continue, consider calling an alarm specialist to inspect your system. The detector’s location may not be appropriate, or the detector may be damaged.
